No-Mar Pro Tire Changer

June 16th, 2008

This machine cost $1,400 including shipping, It comes bolted to a pallet and you have to pick it up at your local shipping terminal. You get 3 spoons, the mount/dismount bar, 1 Yellow Thing, Rim Clamp Set, Tire Lube & Paste, Balancer, Small, Medium, and Large Cone set, and you get 3 bead clamps.

There is little assembly involved. However you will need to at least drill a minumum of two holes into your garage floor and use the provided anchor set to bolt the base down. A hammer drill will make this easy and fast. After which you can get started changing tires and balancing them.

My first impressions is that the professional model is build very well, and looks like it should last a long time. The company also seems to provide excellant customer service, and all the poly-urethane pieces are warantied for life, all you have to pay is shipping should any piece break. The unit also comes with extra pieces right out of the box.

I advise everyone to watch the FREE videos on their website before starting, also the unit came with a DVD so you can watch the videos on your big screen TV instead of your computer monitor. The videos do offer some great tips, so WATCH THEM.

After some practice you will fine that dismounting a rear tire takes 10 minutes or so, and another 10 minutes to mount up the new tire. The hardest part is mounting the new tire which has never been stretched before. This will take some effort and is a lot harder then int he No-Mar videos. One tip to remember is to make sure you lube the tire up very well, this will make life a lot more easier. From another No-Mar person I learned WD40 works great for getting the tire to slide onto the rim. WD40 drys up and will not cause the tire to slip or spin on the rim.

The Balancer is easy to use, and after learning what to do it is pretty easy to balance a rim/tire. Just put the tire on the metal rod, remove the old weights and see where the tire drops to. Mark the top of the tire, with some tape, and then add weights to that area and see if you can make the rim/tire not move. If you are using the same type of tire as before try the same amount of weight and then go from there. I cut a bunch of pieces to differant lengths for my test pieces and I used masking tape to hold the weight to the rim. Remember to buy a box of weights, I got the normal plan ones for $38 for 360 weights. That is like $.11 cents a weight.

Overall I am very happy with the Pro unit so far and it is well worth the extra cash, remember this is a life long purchase. No more spending $30-$50 per rim/tire at the dealer. I can even change ATV tires, car tires, and pretty much every type of tire out there if I wanted too.
